About the Artist
My journey with photography began in 1980, when I was given a Kodak Disc camera on a family trip to Hawaii. That "toy" quickly became a tool — and later, a lifelong passion. By fifth grade, I was exploring light and composition with my first SLR, a Minolta Maxxum 7000, and soon after, I was developing black and white prints in a darkroom on O‘ahu — a place that continues to inspire my work to this day.
Though I studied business at university and spent over two decades in the corporate world after moving to Australia in 2001, photography remained a quiet constant. From vivid sunsets to the intricate forms of clouds, I’ve always been drawn to the abstract beauty found in nature’s details — especially the interplay of light, texture, and time.
Underwater photography became a natural extension of that passion. As a diver with nearly 1,000 logged dives, I took to the challenge of capturing the alien beauty of the deep. The first time someone asked to buy a print from a Facebook post, I realized this wasn’t just a passion — it was a way to connect, to share, and to inspire.
Today, I work primarily with Canon mirrorless bodies (R3, R5 Mk II), a Hasselblad 503CW for film, and the X2D for digital medium format. My work blends traditional landscape photography with abstract interpretation — often created through post-processing to reveal patterns and moods within the sky, sea, and earth. Scenic videos and drone imagery are also part of this evolving journey. All my content is original without the use of AI.
This website is a place to share my vision with the world. I hope the images speak to you. If you have any questions or would like to collaborate, feel free to reach out.
All the best,
David
